"I joined Townends in August 2005 having completed my Degree in Mathematics at the University of Leeds.

Based in our Pontefract office I began my training by working on small sole traders and limited company clients whilst starting my formal accountancy training by studying for the AAT qualification.

This gave me a great grounding in the basics and provided a strong platform on which to develop my knowledge base and skills.

Having gained my AAT qualification and made a start on the path towards my ACA chartered qualification I was given the opportunity to transfer to our Goole office to join the Audit Department (now Corporate) in January 2010. This gave me exposure to a selection of much larger clients and the more complex issues that go along with them. Whilst this was a very steep learning curve it was a key factor in both the success of my studies and in gaining the vital experience needed to progress within the firm.

In January 2013 I became a qualified member of the ICAEW and following a further year working in the Audit Department I was given the opportunity to return to our Pontefract office to manage my own section of clients in January 2014.

Having had the opportunity to build strong relationships with my portfolio of clients and continue to build on my knowledge and experience I had the honour of being made a partner of the firm in July 2016.

I continue to develop my skillset and improve the service delivered to clients whilst learning daily from the wealth of experience that the other partners and members of staff have to offer.

No two days are the same and the variety and scale within the Townends’ client base never fails to keep the job interesting."
